Sky-Traveller ST250 ANR

The passive/active combination

The Sky-Traveller ST250 ANR stereo headset is very similar in features to the Lightspeed QFR XCc previously offered by us. It adds active noise reduction to the high passive reduction of the ST200 forming a great combination of both technologies at a very low price. The ST250 ANR with its elegantly polished black earcups offers music and cell phone connectors. Included is a carrying bag, a microphone wind muff and connection cables for cell phones and music players.

Passive and active noise reduction are a great combination: Passive is ideal for higher frequency noise, e.g. wind. Active noise reduction (ANR) is perfect for low frequency noise from engines and propellers. ANR works by recording the aircraft noise by special microphones inside each headset earcup, "phase-shifting" the noise by 180 degrees and then playing it back through extra speakers in each earcup. This cancels out noise sound waves.

The electrical power needed for ANR comes from two AA batteries located in a compartment in the small in-line control module integrated into the cable. They will last for about 25 hours. The ST250 ANR will automatically shut off the ANR electronics when not in use thanks to the exclusive AES™ technology. Green, yellow and red lights inform you about the battery capacity. Of course, the headset will continue to work without ANR, should you run out of battery power. If you would like to know more about ANR, we recommend the excellent English language tutorials from LightSPEED.

The control module mounted inline in the cable houses two AA batteries, battery capacity indicator and testing switch, On/Off-switch, mono/stereo switch and dual volume controls. It also has a cell phone/audio connector to use your headset with a cell phone or to play music from a CD- or MP3-player. You can select whether you'd like the headset to mute the external audio when voice signals from the radio or the intercom are coming in.

Since not all cell phone models will work with the cell phone adaptor, LightSPEED has compiled a compatibility list. It is not complete, though, and refers primarily to US models. We will gladly advise you of our experience with European cell phones and help you find an adaptor, should that be necessary. Please observe all regulations pertaining to cell phone use in aircraft.
